Hi, my name is Mari Kate. I am a doctoral candidate in sociology at North Carolina State University. My research interests include a wide range of substantive topics in the areas of gender, food consumption, identity formation, and urban community development. Whether looking at the multiple meanings of organic food, vegan identity politics, immigrants and refugees adapting to new food cultures, or food justice organizations, my research employs feminist, intersectional analyses that challenge and question assumptions about the social world.
I have a passion for social justice that culminates in working towards the empowerment of marginalized groups through both my research and teaching.
My areas of specialization include: Sociology of Food - Social Movements - Women and Gender Studies - Symbolic Interactionism - Qualitative Methods - Immigrant Health and Nutrition - Community Development - Commensality - Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
